Sixth-ranked William Smith came into Canton and used a hat trick from Krista Longo to upend the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team 5-0 on Sandy MacAllaster Field.

"The first 20-25 minutes were very good for us," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "We played with confidence and determination. Unfortunately, they exploited a few hopes which made it challenging for us to bounce back from."

The game was wide open until the 32nd minute when Longo buried a corner kick on the far post to beat senior goalkeeper Kelsey West for the game-winning goal. She added her second of the day with just 32 seconds remaining in the first half to fully shift momentum to the visiting Herons.

Longo then assisted on the team's third goal in the 49th minute when she pushed a through ball to Shay Callahan before adding the fourth, and completing her hat trick in the 62nd minute.

The fifth and final Herons goal came via a penalty kick by Emily Diehl in the 82nd minute.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 8-3-0 overall and 1-3-0 in Liberty League play. Meanwhile, the Herons improve to 8-1-1 and remain unbeaten in conference play with a 4-0 record.

"This was an extremely talented William Smith team and they made it difficult for us to find a good attacking rhythm. I'm confident we will rebound as we prepare for Union and RPI," Head Coach Franco Bari said.

The Saints will travel to the Capital District next week for a pair of league games with the Engineers and Dutchwomen.
