POTSDAM, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked Cortland Red Dragons (12-1, 5-0 SUNYAC) seized control with a big run early and cruised to a 17-7 SUNYAC victory over the SUNY Potsdam women’s lacrosse team (4-10, 0-6). Cortland junior Lindsay Abott (South Onondaga, N.Y./Onondaga Central) had a game-high five points with a goal and four assists, while freshman teammate Alexis Egeberg (Black River, N.Y./Carthage) contributed a game-high four goals. Junior Carly Richards (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) led the Bears with two goals and two assists.

After an early lull lasting the first four minutes of the game, the Red Dragon offense erupted with an 11-0 run spanning the next 14 minutes. Edeberg scored three times and junior Erin Kollar (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and freshman Liz Beville (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) each netted two goals during the outburst. Richards finally got the Bears on the board with a high shot over Cortland sophomore goalie Ally Levy (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) at the 8:16 mark. The Red Dragons closed the first half scoring with a goal from freshman Ashley Cook (Commack, N.Y./Commack) at 1:58 and took the 12-1 lead into the break.

Cortland opened the second half with two goals in the first three minutes, extending their lead to 14-1. Six different Bears scored over the remainder of the game as Potsdam closed the contest on a 6-3 run.

Bears’ junior goalie Kaci Milligan (Liverpool, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) allowed 15 goals and made 10 saves in the first 43:44 and freshman Jen Chmiel (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) stopped three shots and allowed two goals over the last 16:16. Levy made two saves and allowed one goal in the first half to earn the win. Red Dragon sophomore Shauna Hutchinson (Islip Terrace/East Islip) stopped three shots and gave up the last six Potsdam tallies in the final 30 minutes.

Sophomore Maria Di Fato (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) also had a big day for Cortland with a goal and three assists. Freshman Taylor Reh (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) chipped in three goals for the Red Dragons.

Cortland outshot Potsdam 40-15 and forced 12 of the Bears 22 turnovers.

Potsdam continues its three-game home stand on Saturday, April 23, with a 1 p.m. showdown with the Buffalo State Bengals.
