ELMIRA, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked Elmira Soaring Eagles (7-0-1, 6-0) used three third period goals to pull away from the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (1-6, 1-4) for a 5-1 victory on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Amanda Lucky scored her first collegiate goal for the Bears.

Elmira jumped out in front at 7:03 of the opening period. Briana Saltsone scored with assists from Jocelynne Hudgins and Ella Stewart. Just over eight minutes later, the Soaring Eagles doubled the lead as Cassidy Delainey scored. Mary-Kate Gellerman and Caitlin Metcalf recorded the assists. Potsdam finally broke the scoring drought with 15 seconds left in the period, as Lucky lit the lamp. Her sister, junior captain Brittany Lucky (Kanata, Ontario/Ottawa Senators) assisted on the play and Potsdam trailed just 2-1 at the first intermission.

Elmira picked up their pressure in the second period, outshooting Potsdam 16-4. However, senior goalie Jen Conophy turned aside all 16 shots to keep the Bears within one.

The Soaring Eagles broke out in the third period with three goals. Ashton Hogan scored her first goal of the game at the 5:53 mark for a 3-1 Elmira advantage. Delainey and Stewart assisted on the play. Three minutes later, Tanis Lamoureux made it 4-1 on helpers from Lindsay Burrows and Hudgins. Hogan closed the scoring with her second marker at 10:59 on an assist from Katie Gaskin.

In goal, Conophy finished with 41 saves, while Samantha Maguire made 21 stops to earn the win. The Bears were 0-3 on the power play and the Soaring Eagles were 0-2.

Potsdam is back in action on Dec. 1, when the Bears host Cortland in their home opener at Cheel Arena. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
