Nationally-ranked Wellesley edged the St. Lawrence women's tennis team 5-4 on Friday night in the Saints opening match of the 2016 Nor'Easter Bowl, which is co-hosted by the No. 34 Blue and Brandeis this weekend.
The Saints, ranked No. 16 in the Northeast region, had a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to wins at No. 2 from Alexandra Dadoly and Emily Wyman and at No. 3 from Lia Petersen and Hallie Young. Dadoly and Wyman downed Emily Olson and Tristan Lorich, while Petersen and Young earned a 7-1 tiebreak win en route to the 9-8 victory over Dasha Kostikina and Samantha Stone.
In singles, Georgia Comber won at No. 4 via retirement with a 4-3 lead in the first set against Lorich. And Dadoly – the lone dual winner of the day for the Saints – followed with a 7-6 (5), 6-0 win at No. 5 against Kostikina for the team's fourth point.
But the Saints were edged by the Blue in straight sets in the other singles positions as Wellesley clinched the victory.
St. Lawrence, now 6-4 in dual matches this season, will face Stonehill at Brandeis at 11:00 a.m. in the second of three Nor'Easter Bowl matches this weekend.
