GENESEO, N.Y.—The 23rd-ranked Geneseo Blue Knights (7-0, 2-0 SUNYAC) jumped out to big lead early and defeated the SUNY Potsdam women’s lacrosse team (4-7, 0-3) 19-7 in a SUNYAC contest on Saturday afternoon. Caroline Buonocore scored five goals and added an assist for Geneseo and teammates Lauren Burgoon and Anna Hutchings each contributed four tallies. Juniors Maribeth Simmons (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) and Sierra Langkammerer (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) led the Bears with three and two goals, respectively.
The Blue Knights scored the first seven goals of the game before junior Carly Richards (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) and Simmons got Potsdam on the Board with back-to-back markers at 18:15 and 17:16. Geneseo closed the half on a 4-1 run with Langkammerer scoring the lone Bears’ goal. The Blue Knights led 11-3 at the break.
Geneseo started the second half in the same fashion, scoring six straight in the first eight minutes for a commanding 17-3 advantage. Simmons and sophomore Lizzy Penree (Cooperstown, N.Y./Indian River) stopped the run, scoring the next two for Potsdam. The teams split the final four goals of the game with Langkammerer and Simmons scoring the last two for the Bears.
In goal for Potsdam, junior Kaci Milligan (Liverpool, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) made 12 saves and allowed all 19 goals in the first 48:19, while freshman Jen Chmiel (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) made one save in the final 11:41. Geneseo’s Annie Smith started, making nine saves, and allowing six goals in 48:06. Julie Bernatzky finished the game with a goal allowed and six saves.
The Bears travel to Oswego on Tuesday, April 12, for a 4 p.m. contest with the Lakers.
