The nationally-ranked No. 20 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team overmatched Cazenovia College on Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Wildcats by the score of 18-4 in Canton, NY. A total of 12 different players scored for the home team, which finished with a 55-17 advantage in shots.

The Saints, now 11-1 on the season, also held an impressive 50-17 lead in ground balls and won 23-of-25 face-offs. Meanwhile, the Wildcats fall to 6-5 on the season.

"We got off to a fast start and were able to keep possession by winning face-offs," said St. Lawrence head coach Mike Mahoney. "We hope that our impressive play this afternoon will give us some momentum heading into a crucial game with RPI on Saturday."

The Saints led 5-1 after the first quarter before scoring three goals in a :30 second span early in the second to open up an 8-1 advantage. Those goals spurred a 10-goal run that went into the third quarter to give the home team a commanding 14-1 cushion en route to the 18-4 victory.

Senior Matt Pope and junior Justin Ingram each had three goals, while first-year Tommy Hovey added two goals and an assist. Sophomore Zach Sloan also added two tallies, while Kyle Jacobsen, Marc Perroni, Alden Frelinghuysen, Cody Danforth, Charlie Jennings, Tucker Garfield, Eric Newman and Drake Paul each added one.

Jacobsen, Perroni, Sloan and Mick MacLaverty also had assists for the Scarlet and Brown.

Senior Steve Cargill finished a perfect 9-for-9 in the face-off circle, while Frelinghuysen was a perfect 8-for-8 and closed with a game-high six ground balls.

Meanwhile, Cazenovia had four different players score goals in the loss, including TJ Shaw, Cory Tilton, Brent Brearly and Matt Komondor. Goaltender Pat Boyle suffered the loss despite making 12 saves, while senior goalie Matt Ruscio earned the win with four stops. Junior James Fuller added two saves in relief during the second half for St. Lawrence.

The Saints will face Rensselaer in Troy, NY on Saturday, April 21 at 1:00pm in a game with major playoff implications.
