Junior Conor Caffrey scored four goals and assisted on two others for six points to finish the week with 13 points to lead the No. 19 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 16-6 win over the Skidmore Thoroughbreds in conference play on Saturday afternoon at Hall-Leet Stadium.

Mike Donnelly added two goals and four assists for six points, while Kyle Gagne netted three goals and added an assist. Jordan Down added two of each, picked up one ground ball and caused one turnover. Nick Brindisi, Brian Cunningham, Cal Hynson, Brett Williams and Harrison Koch all added one goal each for the Saints. Sam Sweeney grabbed a season-high eight ground balls and caused two turnovers. Zachary Ettinghausen and Patrick Abad also caused two turnovers each.

Brindisi put the Saints on the board with an unassisted tally after carrying the ball in from almost midfield and sailing a low shot past Skidmore goalkeeper Dylan Fleishman.

Just about two minutes later, Donnelly circled behind the net and found Dow out in front to give the Saints a 2-0 lead with 11:46 to play in the first quarter.

Jason Shlonsky drove in from the right side to tally the Thoroughbreds first goal, and just 34 seconds later Cody Legeza tied the score with a man-up goal.

Donnelly added his first goal of the game, increasing the Saints' lead to one, then Sam Martin found Caffrey with four seconds remaining to restore the Saints' two goal lead heading into the second quarter.

Sweeney lofted a ball from midfield to find Dow waiting on the doorstep for the Scarlet and Brown's fifth goal and Dow's 19th of the season.

About a minute later Caffrey struck again to give the Saints a 7-2 lead with 12:27 to play in the second. Shlonsky tallied his second of the game, but Caffrey responded once again and successfully completed the hat trick on another setup from Donnelly with 10:36 remaining.

Goals from Skidmore's Eric Megnia and St. Lawrence's Williams would close out the first half of play and the Saints would carry a 8-4 lead into the break.

The Saints opened the third quarter with three straight goals from Donnelly, Gagne and Cal Hynson. Gagne recorded his first of the season, while Hynson netted his seventh to cap the run and put the Saints up 11-4.

Skidmore's lone goal of the third was scored by Brendan Halloran with 5:03 left in the frame.

Gagne ripped a shot from outside the arc to add his second of the game and season on a man-up advantage from Donnelly. Jack Hennessey then found Cunningham to extend the Saints lead to 13-5 with five second to play in the third.

Caffrey opened up the fourth quarter with the Saints' second man-up tally, before Jack Curry recorded Skidmore's sixth and final goal of the game. Gagne capitalized on another man-up advantage and Harrison Koch netted the final goal for the Saints, an unassisted tally, with 4:58 to play.

"It was a really solid team effort from start to finish today," said head coach Mike Mahoney '93. "I liked our transition game and balance offensively. It was a good start to a challenging week of conference games."

The Thoroughbreds were led by Shlonsky with two goals, while Megnia added one goal and one assist. Halloran, Legeza and Curry also scored for Skidmore. Ryan Warnock picked up a team-best six ground balls, while Logan Hart caused two turnovers. Warnock and Eli Millsteing combined for 16-for-25 in the faceoff circle.

Saints' goalkeepers Alex Terry and Matty Corbelle combined for seven saves, while Fleishmann and Chris Baughan made six.

St. Lawrence outshot the Thoroughbreds 34-24 and held a 22-13 shots on goal advantage. The Saints also picked up 24 ground balls to Skidmore's 22, but the Thoroughbreds maintained a 16-9 advantage in the faceoff circle.
