A goal from Jacob Pritchard gave the No. 18 Saints an early lead at Princeton, but three unanswered goals gave the Tigers a 3-1 upset win at Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, N.J. on Friday night.

With the loss and a Harvard win over Union, the Saints drop to a second-place tie with the Dutchmen in the conference standings with 25 points, as the Crimson jumped in front with 26 points.

Princeton's 10th-ranked power play unit proved to be the difference against the Saints as Josh Teves' second-period power play tally served as the game winner.

Just over five minutes into the first period, Pritchard jammed at a loose puck in the crease and slid it under Tigers' netminder Colton Phinney for a 1-0 St. Lawrence lead. His ninth goal of the year was assisted by Michael Ederer, whose initial shot was blocked and popped up in the air before landing in front of Phinney, and Mike Graham.

The Saints have scored first in 22 of their 30 games played this season and are now 13-6-3 in those games.

At the 15:52 mark of the opening frame Alex Riche netted the equalizer when he slid a rebound behind Kyle Hayton on the far post.

Teves goal in the second made it 2-1 in favor of the Tigers and early in the final frame Max Becker cut across the crease and tucked the puck under Hayton's left pad for the third and final Princeton goal.

With Hayton on the bench for the extra attacker, Eric Sweetman blocked a shot by Max Veronneau in the crease to keep the deficit at two goals. Sweetman – who leads the Saints in blocked shots this season – blocked four against Princeton on Friday night. The Saints blocked 13 as a team.

Hayton finished with 33 saves for St. Lawrence, while his counterpart Phinney stopped 30 for the Tigers.

The Saints are now 15-9-6 and 11-4-3 in conference play and drop to second in the conference standings. Princeton improves to 10-11-3 and 5-9-3 in ECAC Hockey games.

St. Lawrence will host its final regular season home games next weekend, hosting Cornell on Friday night and Colgate on Saturday.
