Sophomore Emily Wyman and first-year Carly Jefferson won three-set battles in singles at No. 1 and No. 6, respectively but the Saints women's tennis team fell to No. 17 Skidmore 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
The other St. Lawrence win on the day came at No. 3 singles from Georgia Comber and Lia Petersen, who posted a dominant 8-2 win over their Thoroughbred opponents.
Against Skidmore's Maddie Benn at No. 1, Wyman rebounded from a 7-5 set one loss for a 6-4 win in the second set and a 10-6 advantage in the super breaker.
Jefferson won the first set of her match in the sixth spot against Alex Goldberg, 6-2, before dropping the second 6-3 to force a third set which Jefferson won handily, at 6-0.
All other singles matches were won by the Thoroghbreds in straight sets, with the Saints winning two games or less in each.
With the loss, the Saints first in Liberty League matches this season, the team is now 6-3 overall. St. Lawrence will travel to Wellesley and Bowdoin for the annual Nor'easter Bowl this weekend.
