No. 17 Saints men's lacrosse down Nazareth, 16-8

Senior captain Jordan Dow scored two goals and assisted on three others for five points, while Conor Caffrey, Steven Peterson and Alex Dunn netted two goals each to lead the No. 17 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 16-8 win over Nazareth on Saturday afternoon at Hall-Leet Stadium.

Drew Wyman and Jack Suominen each recorded one goal and two assists in today's win, while Garrett Glasgow and Harrison Koch tallied one goal and assist each. Sam Martin, Mike Donnelly, David Jennings and Jack Hennessey all notched one goal as well for the Scarlet and Brown. Sam Sweeney picked up a team-best three ground balls, while Sam Boehle grabbed two and caused three turnovers. Liam Dohery went 10-for-21 in the faceoff circle.

The Saints got off to a hot start, recording five unanswered goals within the first quarter. Jennings struck first for the Saints and was followed by an unassisted tally from Suominen.

Next up was Mike Donnelly with his 12th of the season off a quick pass from Koch. Just about four minutes later, Caffrey netted his 20th goal for the Saints to take a 4-0 lead.

Dunn picked up his first of the season, before Drew McNerney scored the Golden Flyers first goal. Jon Lippert capitalized on a pass out front from Jeremy Jacob to bring the game within three.

After Lippert's goal the Scarlet and Brown added another five-goal streak with two goals from Peterson and one from Caffrey, Hennessey and the run was capped by Martin's third goal of the season.

Paul Walter snuck a man-up goal past Saints' goalkeeper Alex Terry at 11:08 of the third quarter, but the score remained 10-3 in favor of the Saints.

Wyman fed Dow for St. Lawrence's 12th goal of the game just a minute and 13 seconds later. Koch scored his second of the season off a pass from Brett Williams with 2:13 to play in the third frame.

Dunn would score with 18 seconds to play in the third, while Glasgow and Wyman both recorded goals in the fourth quarter for their second and first of the season, respectively.

Anthony Basile closed the game with back-to-back goals for the Golden Flyers.

"I thought today was a great response by the guys," said head coach Mike Mahoney '93. "We wanted to get off to a good start and I think we accomplished that. We had a great balance in the scoring column and shot the ball really well, which has been a focus of ours."

Basile led Nazareth with a hat trick, while Jack Crowley netted two goals, added an assist and caused two turnovers. Walter, Lippert and McNerney scored one goal apiece for the Golden Flyers. Tim Vinton picked up a game-high nine ground balls and went 17-for-21 in the faceoff circle.

Terry recorded 10 saves between the pipes for the Saints, while Andrew Leahey, Alex Winkler and Rick Kronenwett all shared time on goal for the Golden Flyers and combined for five saves.

Nazareth held a 33-28 sot advantage, the Saints maintained a 21-18 shots on goal edge.
