Sophomore Brian Cunningham led the Saints with a career-high four goals, while Conor Caffrey added three goals and two assists for five points to lead the No. 16 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 20-6 win over Bard in a Liberty League contest Saturday afternoon at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, New York.
With the win, the Saints improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Raptors fell to 2-4 and 0-2.
Caffrey, who tallied five points in today's win, also picked up four ground balls and caused one turnover for the Scarlet and Brown. Mike Donnelly also recorded a hat trick, while Cal Hynson, Steven Peterson and Jack Hennessey all recorded two goals each. Jordan Dow netted one goal and assisted on three others. Sophomore Garrett Glasgow recorded his first collegiate goal for the Saints, while Sam Martin and Harrison Koch each netted one. Liam Doherty dominated the faceoff circle going 15-for-18 and recorded a team-best eight ground balls.
Dow set up Donnelly for the Saints first tally of the game and then Dow added a goal, for his 15th of the season, with 9:11 still remaining in the first quarter to give the Saints an early 2-0 lead.
Kyle Gagne fed Peterson for a man-up goal with 2:03 to play in the first and with 21 seconds to play Martin notched his second goal of the season for the Saints.
Peter Sojka put Bard on the board with an unassisted mark 8:45 into the second quarter.
St. Lawrence tallied eight goals in the second quarter, including four unanswered goals and three man-up tallies, to start the second frame and held a 12-3 lead at halftime.
Emmet O'Connell scored Bards fourth goal of the game, bringing the score to 13-4 in favor of St. Lawrence.
The Saints recorded seven unanswered goals, including three from Cunningham through the third and fourth quarters to end the game, increasing their lead 20-4. Bard would record two goals in the final two minutes from Jeremy Awe and Corey Rich but could not erase their early deficit to the Saints.
St. Lawrence capitalized on 6-of-9 man-up opportunities and outshot Bard 58-12 with a 40-11 shot on goal advantage.
Saints' goalkeepers Alex Terry, Jordan Eichholz and Matty Corbelle combined to make five saves in goal, while Lyle Healey made 20 saves for the Raptors.
The Saints will return home to Canton to host league newcomer Ithaca on Wednesday, March 28th at 4 p.m.
