CORTLAND, N.Y.—The top-ranked SUNY Cortland Red Dragons (16-0, 7-0 SUNYAC) used a strong start to down the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (4-10, 0-7) 18-5 on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman midfielder Michaela Cole (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) and sophomore attack Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) each scored twice for the Bears, while Marilyn Farrell led Cortland with a game-high eight points on four goals and four assists.

The Red Dragons opened the first half with the game's first 11 tallies, including three from Kristen Ohberg and two from Farrell. Freshman defender Hannah Keggins (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) got Potsdam on the board with the period's final goal at the 2:37 mark. Cortland scored five straight to start the final 30 minutes. McClusky slowed the run with a man-up goal at the 21:25 mark on an assist from junior attack Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East). The Red Dragons scored the next two before the Bears closed the game with a 3-0 run. Weigel set up McClusky again at 12:55 and Cole closed the scoring with two unassisted tallies at 4:52 and 2:45.

In goal, Potsdam senior captain Jen Chmiel (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) and freshman Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) each played a half and recorded three saves. Liz Ingalls earned the victory for Cortland with one save and two goals allowed in the first 43:35. Jaclyn Beshlian allowed three goals and stopped one shot in the final 16:25.

The Bears close out their 2014 campaign with a 1 p.m. game at Buffalo State on Saturday.
