The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team faced nationally-ranked No. 1 Amherst College Sunday evening in the Tip-Off Tournament Championship, falling by the score of 93-63. Sophomore Kelly Legg and senior Iris Santoni were named to the All-Tournament team.

Legg led the Saints (1-1) with a game-high 21 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while Santoni added nine points, two assists, and three rebounds. First-year student Maddy Wetterhahn joined Legg in double figures, tallying 12 points and five boards. Meanwhile, Amherst improves to 2-0 and had six players reach double-digits in scoring, helping to extend the program's home win-streak to 51 games.

"Amherst is an extremely talented team and shot the lights out tonight," said St. Lawrence head coach Dan Roiger. "With that said, I thought that we competed well and did a great job at getting the ball inside. We won some battles, though Amherst won the war. We learned a lot about ourselves tonight, which is what we wanted to accomplish this weekend."

The teams combined for only 12 points in the opening four and a half minutes and the Saints trailed by only seven (16-9) with 12:30 remaining in the half. Amherst took charge from there, using 11-of-16 shooting from three-point range to help earn the victory. After taking a 45-24 advantage at the end of the first half, the Jeffs did not allow the Saints closer than 21 points the remainder of the game.

St. Lawrence out-scored Amherst by an 18-12 margin in the final 8:47, with Wetterhahn accounting for nine of those points down the stretch. The Jeffs shot 50.0 percent from the field with 10 turnovers, while the Saints shot 41.0 percent with 18 turnovers.

The Scarlet and Brown will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 29, when the team travels to Plattsburgh State for a non-conference game.
