Canton, NY – Noelle Niemiec produced a three-point night and Whitney Bernier scored her first goal of the season as the women's hockey team earned a 4-2 win against visiting Becker College on Saturday evening.

Canton (9-10-1, 3-4-0 CHC) got on the board first at 10:12 of the opening period when Grace Page picked up the puck at the near boards and left a quick pass to Hannah Brady. Brady slipped a cross-ice pass right in front of goal to Bernier who put home her first of the season past Julia Johnson.

The Roos doubled their lead seven minutes later when Niemiec and Tessa Dobson executed a nice double team tying Becker up at the near boards outside the blue line. Jessica Pele skated into the zone as Johnson came out of net. Dobson's shot went just wide right of the open net as Pele jammed the puck in for her seventh goal of the season.

The hosts added their third goal of the game at 11:14 of the middle period. Menchaca pushed the puck out to Niemiec at the far boards where her initial shot was blocked by a Hawk defender. Tess Adams collected the rebound and put home a nifty back-handed shot for her 14th of the season.

Becker (7-12-2, 1-8-0 CHC) trimmed the deficit to two just over four minutes later with the skater advantage. Hannah Elmer pushed a pass from right to left to Samantha Talmadge at the point. She slapped a shot as Brianna Luciani redirected it out in front through the five-hole of Brooke Susac.

The Hawks cut the Roos lead in half 2:23 into the third period when Rachel Pitcher won a faceoff at the left circle back to Luciani. She flipped the puck toward the far post where Christie Gray placed a shot far post past the blocker of Susac.

The Roos added a crucial insurance marker on the power play when Lora Ardoin collected the puck at the far boards. Her initial shot was blocked but the puck deflected to Niemiec at the high slot as she lifted a shot top shelf over the shoulder of Madison Rigsby for the 4-2 lead.

Susac turned aside six shots in her ninth win of the season. Johnson made 16 saves over the first 40 minutes, while Rigsby stopped 22 shots over the final 20 minutes. Both teams scored once on the power play in 13 opportunities.

These two teams will have a rematch on Sunday at 2 p.m.
