Nichols logs another Saints Top-25 Nordic Ski finish at Colby Carnival

St. Lawrence University senior Nordic skier Kelsey Nichols recorded her third straight top-25 finish on Sunday, finishing in 22nd place in the women's freestyle event at the 2013 Colby Carnival.

Nichols raced the women's 15k Free mass-start in 46:58.4 to pace the St. Lawrence Nordic teams on the final day of the carnival at the Quarry Road Recreation Area. Rookies Cassidy Cichowicz and Erin Perryman also scored for the Saints in 30th and 51st place, respectively, as the team closed in 10th place.

Sienna Searles (52nd), Kate Mulcahy (74th), Melanie Swick (80th) and Margaret Nitschke (81st) also raced in the women's 15k Free for the Scarlet and Brown.

In the men's 20k Free, St. Lawrence was led by Austin Meng in 42nd place overall. Meng joined Will Frielinghaus (48th) and Kyle Curry (52nd) in the scoring as the team finished in 12th.

St. Lawrence was also represented in the men's event by Phillip Marshall (58th), Reed Likly (64th), James McCatherin (68th), Evan Martell (69th), Austin Hart (74th) and Matt Dier (82nd).

The 2013 Colby Carnival was won by the University of Vermont, as St. Lawrence finished in sixth place out of 16 with the Nordic and alpine points combined. The Catamounts won the men's 20k Free on Sunday ahead of Dartmouth thanks to Scott Patterson's individual win, while UNH claimed the women's race with Annika Taylor earning the victory for the Wildcats.

The Saints will compete again next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, February 2 and 3, in the Nordic portion of the 2013 UVM Carnival at the Trapp Family Lodge.
