Naclerio nets second game-winning 4-point play, Saints men's basketball edges RIT 55-54

For the second time this season, graduate captain Riley Naclerio nailed a 3-pointer with seconds to play, got fouled and finished the four-point play, lifting the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 55-54 win over the RIT Tigers in Liberty League play on Friday night in Rochester, New York.

The Saints improved to 10-5 on the season and 7-1 in conference play and remained in first place the Liberty League standings, while RIT fell to 3-12 and 0-8.

Ben Crawford led the Scarlet and Brown with 12 points, shooting 5-for-1- from the floor, and grabbing nine rebounds. Brandon Arnold shot 3-for-7 from the arc and scored 11 points, while Chris Miner added nine points and eight rebounds. Naclerio finished with seven points, four blocks and a team-best 10 rebounds.

St. Lawrence claimed a 13-4 lead midway through the first half with a 3-pointer from Dom DeRegis and the Saints extended their lead to 24-16 after the first 20 minutes of play, holding RIT to just 22.6 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.

A layup from Crawford gave the Saints a 10-point lead early in the second half, but the Tigers pushed back bringing the game within three with 8:46 remaining. Cobey Adekanbi gave the Tiger's their first lead of the second half with a dunk at 5:47, but a three-point play from Chris Miner put the Saints back up 42-40.

After three more lead changes, RIT took a five-point lead after shooting 4-for-4 from the line. Cale Sargent drained a 3-pointer to bring the Scarlet and Brown back within two with 1:14 to play. RIT held a three-point lead (54-51) with 42 seconds left, before Naclerio hit the 3-pointer with 25 seconds left, got fouled and made the free throw for the win.

"Riley scored the first points of the game and the last points of the game," said head coach Chris Downs. "And in between the team had to work hard and grind out the win. Now we set our sights on Hobart tomorrow."

Jaymee Rosser led the Tiger's with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals, while Curtis Nesbit, Will Atkinson and Michael Young each scored seven points.

St. Lawrence will take on Hobart tomorrow afternoon in Geneva, New York. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
