Canton, NY – Vili-Jesper Koivula scored a pair of goals but two unanswered tallies and a pair of scores from CJ Stubbs gave visiting Morrisville State a 5-3 win v. the SUNY Canton men's hockey team on Friday night in the Roos House.

The Roos got on the board first at 4:11 of the first period when Tyler Ralph picked off a pass just inside his offensive blue line and fired a shot toward the near post that Thomas Crabtree deflected home for his first goal of the season.

Morrisville evened the score 45 seconds later when Max Sund fed the puck from the blue line to Patrick Smith just behind the net and he hit Stevie Ray Adams just outside the crease who one-timed home his second game of the season. The Mustangs took the lead at 14:23 when Jon Lauer fed a pass from blue line to blue line as Nick DeVito and CJ Stubbs skated into their offensive zone 2-on-1. DeVito hit Stubbs to his right who put home the shorthanded goal into the open net.

The Roos tied the game at two on the power play with 1:29 remaining. Joey Vocino won a faceoff at the right circle back to Ben Beasley at the point. He swung a pass to Vili-Jesper Koivula on his left who one-timed a slap shot past the pad of Jared Young for his second goal of the season. The Mustangs held an 11-4 shots advantage but the teams skated to first intermission tied at two.

The visitors took their second lead of the night at 4:24 of the middle period when Layne Martin's initial shot missed to the right of net off the far boards but the puck rebounded right to Stubbs out in front who registered his second point of the night.

The Roos tied the game once again four minutes later when Kasey Kulczycki battled for the puck at the far boards in the defensive zone and found Ralph who hit Koivula with a break out pass. He skated in with a defenseman to his right but fired a quick wrister across the face of goal beating Young glove side.

Morrisville took a 4-3 lead when Sund fed the puck up the near boards finding Layne Martin in the neutral zone. He left a drop off pass for DeVito to his right who lifted a shot over the left shoulder of Austin Washkurak. Lauer added his second point of the night finishing off a Canton turnover on a 2-on-goalie situation.

Washkurak made 18 saves in the start giving up four goals, while Cerasuolo made nine saves over the final 23:51 giving up one goal. Young made 22 stops for the Mustangs. Canton finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while killing off both Morrisville skater advantages.

These two teams will close out the weekend home-and-home series on Saturday at Morrisville at 7 p.m.
