Musser helps Saints women's swim team to fifth in championship meet

With a pair of top-10 finishes, first-year student Meg Musser led the Saints on day two of the Liberty League Championship swimming and diving meet in Rochester, as the Saints finished fifth of ten teams with 627.5 points through the three sessions. Host school Rochester won the women's competition with 1885.5 points.

The Saints came into Saturday's morning session tied with William Smith in fourth place. The Herons finished with 723 points to claim sole possession of the fourth spot.

In total, the Saints had five swimmers finish in the top-10 of their respective events: Musser, Heather Foley, Gabriella Marchetti, Alanna Blackburn and Julia Carson, in addition to a pair of top-10 relay finishes.

Musser finished third in the 200 backstroke, edging Union's Christin Belforti for the team's lone top-3 finish on the second day of competition. Including Musser, the Saints had three swimmers inside the top-20 in the event, as DeGuardi (2:20.50) and Courtney Goodrich (2:21.16) finished 12th and 15th, respectively.

Musser's other top-ten finish came in the 100 backstroke, as she clocked in at 1:03.06 for ninth.

Foley posted a time of 1:00.97 to finish sixth in the 100 fly, while Musser (1:02.45) and Blackburn (1:02.46) came in 14th and 15th in the event, respectively.

In the 100 breast, Carson (1:12.93) touched the wall five one-hundredths of a second in front of RPI's Kathleen Bolton (1:12.98) to round out the top ten.

Marchetti's top finish of the day came in distance freestyle event at 1650 yards, as she swam to a ninth-place finish with a time of 19:28.50, while Blackburn's was the top Saints swimmer in the 100 sprint distance in the free, earning fourth in 54.43.

In the first event of the morning session – the 200 medley relay – the Saints foursome of Musser, Julia Carson, Heather Foley and Alanna Blackburn combined for a time of 1:54.95 and a fourth-place finish. The Saints foursome of Foley, Becca Raab, Leinders and Blackburn finished sixth in the 400 free to close out the meet.
