Sophomore Julia Mulhern netted her second and third goals of the season to lead the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over Union College in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
With the win, the Saints improved to 5-0-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in league play, while the Dutchwomen fell to 3-4-1 and 0-1-0.
Mulhern led the Saints with two goals, while Nikki Syrotiak and Emily Wade each recorded an assist.
St. Lawrence led off with two close chances as Isabel Silvia rang the crossbar and Megan Gannon was there to regain control, but Union's goalkeeper Kelsey Hartsoe made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.
In the 32nd minute, Syrotiak lofted a pass from the right side to Julia Mulhern who headed the ball past Hartsoe to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
At the half, the Scarlet and Brown held a 7-6 shot advantage, but the Dutchwomen held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
In the second half, Emily Wade tipped a pass to Mulhern, who made a low shot to the left corner, giving the Saints the insurance goal and a 2-0 lead in the 82nd minute.
Paige Sherling and Erin O'Shea led Union with two shots on goal each, while Linsey Giles and Georgia Mraz each recorded one.
Saints' goalkeeper Samantha Allen made six saves in goal to record her third shutout of the season, while Hartsoe recorded four.
The Saints finished with a 15-12 shot advantage and tied the Dutchwomen 6-6 in shots on goal.
St. Lawrence will travel to Plattsburgh State for a non-conference game against the Cardinals at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25.
