First year Julia Mulhern scored two goals to lead the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 5-2 win over Skidmore in Saratoga Springs, New York on Saturday afternoon.

St. Lawrence struck first when a pair of Skidmore players became entangled and Kaleigh White was able to dribble in alone from 18 yards out to score into an empty net at the 6:46 mark.

The Thoroughbreds tied it in the 20th minute on a long distance shot from Courtney Shaw.

The Saints added two more goals before halftime, as Megan Gannon scored off a deflection in the 32nd minute and then assisted on Mulhern's first goal just over two minutes later.

Skidmore cut the Saints lead to 3-2 on a one-time header by Emma Basso. The Saints responded when Katie Clemmer made a run down the right side and then hit Mulhern who tallied her second of the day. Hannah Merriam added a late goal for the Saints when she scored on a deep shot from 26 yards out during the 82nd minute of play.

"While we are very happy with the result, we were hoping for a better performance today," said head coach Franco Bari. "Skidmore applied a lot of pressure on us and were very dangerous in the attack. While they had us on the ropes for most of the game, we found a way to capitalize on our limited opportunities. This was a big result for us today and while we were a bit off, we found a way to dig deep and get an important result."

Samantha Allen had seven for the Saints, including five in the second half, while Alyssa Rollins finished six saves for Skidmore.

The Thoroughbred's outshot St. Lawrence 22-16, but Saints held an 11-9 shots on goal advantage. The Saints improved to 10-4 on the season and 5-2 in Liberty League play, while Skidmore fell to 3-9-2 and 0-5-2.

The Scarlet and Brown will host Clarkson on Tuesday, Oct. 24th at 3 p.m. and wrap up the regular season against William Smith on Saturday, Oct. 28th.
