Sophomore Julia Mulhern scored in the 60th minute to lead the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Skidmore in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

With the win, the Saints improved to 9-1-3 on the season and 4-1-2 in conference play, while Skidmore fell to 6-6 and 3-4. After today's results, the Saints currently sit in third place in the league standings behind William Smith and Ithaca.

With just over 30 minutes remaining, Mulhern capitalized on a scramble in front of Skidmore goalkeeper Ava Keller to give the Saints the 1-0 edge on her fourth game-winning goal of the season.

Saints' goalkeeper Samantha Allen, who ranks 15th nationally with a .334 goals against average and ninth with a .935 save percentage, and the Saints' defense managed to hold off all of Skidmore's 11 shots through the second half.

The Thoroughbreds held a 20-12 shot advantage, but the Saints edged Skidmore in shots on goal, 7-4.

"This team has a lot of heart," said head coach Sinead McSharry. "With it being senior day we had extra momentum going into the game and had good attacking moments that led to some brilliant opportunities. Defensively we were consistent and solid all over the back line and that is hard to do when you face a team as threatening as Skidmore."

Vivian Montgomery-Walsh, Courtney Shaw and Yasmine Boukari each tallied four shots for the Thoroughbreds.

Allen recorded four saves in goal for the Saints, while Keller made five for Skidmore and the Thoroughbreds made one team save. With today's win, Allen recorded her eighth shutout of the season.

St. Lawrence will face neighboring Clarkson University in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, October 23 at 6 p.m. in Potsdam, New York.
