Sophomore Patrick Mortensen posted his first collegiate cross country win and the St. Lawrence men's cross country team placed five runners in the top-nine positions to win the four-team Pre-SUNYAC Championship at Norwood-Norfolk Central School on Saturday afternoon.
Mortensen finished the five-kilometer race in 16 minutes, 12.8 seconds, an average pace of 5:14 per mile. He edged Mitch Ryan, a three-time All-Region performer who graduated from SUNY Cortland last spring, by 3.1 seconds.
The Saints easily won the team title, scoring just 20 points. SUNY Plattsburgh finished second with 51 points.
