St. Lawrence University senior Kim Morse scored a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists, leading the Saints women's lacrosse team to an 18-11 win over Clarkson University at Hall-Leet Stadium on Tuesday night.

The victory moves the Scarlet and Brown to 5-7 (3-2), while the Golden Knights remain winless in the league (0-5) and fall to 1-8 on the year.

"Clarkson always seems to play us tough and they certainly gave us a run in the first half," said St. Lawrence head coach Jodi Canfield. "We were fortunate to make some offensive plays early in the second half to give ourselves a cushion."

St. Lawrence, which finished the game with a 42-23 advantage in shots, had its hands full with the Golden Knights in the first 30:00 minutes. The Saints were able to open up a 5-2 lead early but Clarkson rallied when Alyssa Cristaldi scored her second of five goals on the evening to tie the game at 6-6 with 7:35 remaining in the opening stanza.

The home team rebounded nicely, though, with the final two goals of the first half to take an 8-6 lead into intermission. Sophomore Brigid Hurley and junior Alanna Piroli capped the opening half scoring.

Those two goals propelled St. Lawrence into the second half with momentum as it added to the lead with the opening two tallies in the second half from juniors Margie Bailey and Kendall Harty. However, Clarkson refused to go away as they Knights rattled off three straight goals, including two from Cristaldi, to creep back to within one at 10-9.

The Scarlet and Brown would buckle down in the latter stages of the second half, reeling off eight of the game's final 10 goals. Morse scored three straight goals, followed by a tally by classmate Kim Cooper, to open up a 14-9 lead. Harty, sophomore Johanna Kelley, Morse and junior Paige Powell capped the scoring for the Saints en route to the 18-11 win.

Senior captain Anna Marchand made 10 saves to earn the victory for the Scarlet and Brown, while Hannah Walters turned in a solid 14-save performance for Clarkson.

St. Lawrence will be in action again in its final home game of the 2011 regular season on Friday, April 15. The Saints will host nationally-ranked No. 2 Hamilton at Hall-Leet Stadium at 4:00 pm.
