Senior assistant captain Alex Moore scored a goal and added an assist to help lead the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 3-2 win over Carleton University in an exhibition game on Wednesday afternoon at Appleton Arena. 

The game was the first for the Saints in a month since suffering their first loss of the year to Clarkson on Dec. 3.

"It's always nice to get back from break and get the games going again," said head coach Chris Wells '92. "We had some good jump in some areas tonight and created some great chances."

Carleton scored the game's first goal early in the first period, with Kaylie Welk springing Delaney Ross on a 2-on-1 with a breakout pass from deep in her own defensive end. Welk opted to shoot rather than pass and beat St. Lawrence starting goaltender Brooke Wolejko with a low shot to the far side.

Kennedy Marchment tied the game for the Saints with a power play goal later in the period after Brooke Webster threaded the needle with a pass between two defenders that found Marchment at the blue line. Marchment skated in all alone and beat Carleton goalie Summer Roberts with a wrist shot to the glove side. 

Moore, who picked up an assist on the Saints' first goal, scored a goal of her own halfway through the second period, taking a feed from Justine Reyes deep in the Ravens' zone and skating across the goal mouth before depositing a low shot in the net to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.

Hannah Miller gave the Saints a 3-1 lead late in the second period with a shot from between the circles off a feed from Webster.

The Ravens cut the lead to one with a power play goal with less than three minutes to play. Nadine Edney blocked a shot by Jordan Beshera, but the puck went directly to Valerie Bouillon, who sent a cross-ice pass to Katia Boulianne, who one-timed a shot from the left faceoff dot short-side into top corner.

Wolejko made six saves to earn the win for the Saints, while Grace Harrison, who replaced Wolejko about halfway through the second period, stopped seven shots as the Saints held a 38-15 advantage in shots on goal. Roberts finished the game with 23 saves, including 20 in the first period. Jennifer Walker, who came in after the Saints second goal, made 12 saves for the Ravens.

"Roberts was fantastic in the first and kept the game close," said Wells. "This was a good opportunity for us to get back into the swing of things before heading down to Washington, D.C., to take on Mercyhurst."

St. Lawrence, ranked No. 3/4 in the national polls, will face Mercyhurst in their final two non-league games of the season at Kettler Ice Arena — the Washington Capitals' practice facility — on Saturday and Sunday. For more information and to buy tickets, visit the D1 in DC Eventbrite webpage.
