BUFFALO, N.Y.—Bears Junior goalkeeper Jakeb Mitchell (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) made a career-high 15 saves, but the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-10-2, 0-8-1 SUNYAC) bowed to Buffalo State (10-4-2, 5-3-1) 1-0 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
The Bengals were able to sustain pressure on the Potsdam defense as the first half wore on. Buffalo State was able to generate seven shots, while limiting the Bears to two in the first half. However, Mitchell was sharp and stopped six attempts in the opening 45 minutes.
The Bengals outshot Potsdam 11-5 in the second half, but again were frustrated by Potsdam's goalie. Mitchell added another six saves to his total as regulation ran out.
Buffalo State continued the pressure with eight shots in overtime. It looked like the Bengals might not have any luck when they hit the crossbar, but Pa Lu scored in the 98th minute to close out the game.
The Bears wrap up their 2018 campaign at home on Tuesday night when they host Clarkson University at 7 p.m.
