St. Lawrence University sophomore Kieran Miller scored a career-high 15 points and added eight rebounds as the Saints men's basketball team defeated SUNY Potsdam 65-60 in Potsdam, NY on Friday night. The visitors used a 13-0 run late in the second half as the team finished 2014 with a non-conference win.

Kyle Kobis had 15 points and five assists for St. Lawrence (5-3), which shot 42% from the floor (20-of-48) in the game. The Bears (1-5) were led by Rishawd Hendrick's 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting, while Zac Adams added 17 points. Though Potsdam also shot 40% from the floor in the game, the home team shot just 24% from behind the arc on 5-of-21 shooting, while the visitors were 7-of-18 (39%).

Neither team played its best basketball in the first half, as Potsdam went to the locker room at intermission with a 27-25 lead. The Saints struggled with just nine field goals and seven turnovers in the half, while Adams led the Bears to the lead behind a 13-point period.

Both St. Lawrence and Potsdam had better offensive performances in the second half, exchanging buckets throughout as the home team owned a 46-43 lead thanks to a three by Tishsean Emmanuel with 7:06 to play. However, St. Lawrence responded with the impressive 13-0 run that spanned 2:33, taking control up 56-46 behind the offense of Miller, Kobis and Willie Zachery.

The Bears would claw back within striking distance in the final minute, but the Saints knocked down 7-of-10 free throws to solidify the 65-60 non-conference victory.

St. Lawrence will play its first game of 2015 on January 2 when it opens Liberty League play at Rensselaer. Tip-off between the Saints and Engineers is set for 8:00pm.
