Sophomore Hannah Miller scored two goals and Saints defensemen Amanda Boulier and Amanda McClure tallied their first goals of the season, as the women's hockey team went on to blank Vermont 4-0 for their first win of the 2015-16 season in the road half of a home-and-home with the Catamounts in Burlington, Vt. on Thursday night.

Sophomore Brooke Wolejko earned her first career shutout with a 27-save performance in her first complete game of the season.

After a back-and-forth first period with minimal stoppages and no goals, the Saints dominated time of possession in the second and opened up a 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

"It took a bit to get our pace," Head Coach Chris Wells said. "Vermont has a couple good chances early and we had a few late in the period. We were able to carry that momentum into the second where we capitalized on some good opportunities."

Immediately after killing a penalty on sophomore Michelle Alonardo, Boulier fed Jenna Marks as she entered the Vermont zone. Marks skated through the slot, drew the defense and then dropped a pass to the trailing Miller for a wrister from the circle that beat Catamount netminder Molly Depew high on the glove side for a 1-0 St. Lawrence lead.

With just over a minute remaining in the frame Boulier pushed the advantage to two goals as she took a pass from first-year Justine Reyes and beat Depew with a bar down shot from the right point for her first goal of the season.

Twenty-eight seconds later, McClure notched her first of the year and second of her career with a hard slapshot from the left point that found its way through the five hole and into the back of the net to make it 3-0 Saints heading into the break. Senior Dominique Korakianitis and first-year Kayla Nielsen assisted on the play.

Four minutes and three seconds into the final frame Miller tallied her second of the night with a textbook redirect over Depew's left shoulder on a shot from senior defensemen Megan Armstrong, with Kennedy Marchment also assisting, to increase the lead to 4-0.

Vermont had a chance to spoil the shutout near the 11:00 minute mark but the shot from the left faceoff dot rang off the inside of the far post and was cleared by the Saints defense before the trailing forwards has a chance for a second attempt.

The Saints finished with a 32-17 edge in shots, including a 19-5 advantage in the second period.

"Our team has done a real good job supporting one another the first part of the season and the win gives a boost for tomorrow," Wells added.

The puck drops on the Appleton Arena rematch between the two teams on Friday night at 7 p.m.
