Sophomore Hannah Merriam netted her second goal of the season early in the second half to help the No. 21 Saints to a 1-0 shutout win over Bard on Sandy MacAllaster Field on Saturday afternoon.

"I was really impressed with a much-improved Bard. They were very inspired, worked hard and made finishing challenging for us," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "Our play was strong today. We moved the ball well, had great composure and created very good opportunities."

With the win, the Saints improve to 8-2 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty League. Meanwhile the Raptors, 5-4-1 and are also 1-2 in conference matches.

The Saints controlled much of the possession throughout Saturday's contest; keeping Bard pinned in its defensive third and finishing with an 11-1 shot advantage.

While neither goalkeeper was tasked to make a save in the first half, it did not take Merriam long to find the net in the second. In the 50th minute, fellow sophomore Kaleigh White carried the pall past a Bard defender before cutting back and taking a shot, but her shot was blocked by the Raptors defense before it ricocheted back out to Merriam who one-timed the rebound behind goalkeeper Kelsey O'Brien for the game-winning tally.

Kelsey West finished with one save in the shutout for St. Lawrence, her third of the season.

The Saints will return to MacAllaster Field next weekend for a 3:00 p.m. match with William Smith on Saturday.
