Men’s Novice boat continues to shine for Saints

The Novice 8 boat for the St. Lawrence University Men's Rowing team had another quality finish taking third in the finals and missing second place by just five seconds at the New York State Championship Regatta Saturday afternoon at Fish Creek near the campus of Skidmore College.

The Novice boat featured coxswain Ellisabeth Bartkus and rowers Tyler Frame, Nathaniel Boechat, Evan Ketcham, Matthew Boscow, Gregor Petakovic, John Courtney,Greg Blasz and Henry Sandiford and captured first place in its heat race early in the day to qualify for the finals. In the championship race, the St. Lawrence boat finished third behind the US Military Academy and RIT. In the second heat race in the morning, the Saints edged RIT by 0.2 seconds to win the heat.

In the Varsity 8 competition, the St. Lawrence first boat finished in first place in the Petite Final race in the afternoon finishing ahead of Geneseo, RPI, Binghamton and Oswego. In the first heat race of the day in the morning session, St. Lawrence took fourth to earn its spot in the Petite Final.

The First Varsity 8 boat featured coxswain Lauren Ward and rowers Travis Galowski, Matthew Rostkowski, Dan Tobin, Palchen Wangchuk, Jackson Leahy, Sam Gavett, Chester Hojniki and Casimir Misiewicz.

The Second 8 included coxswain Emma Root and rowers Michael Bauman, Sam Pratt, Jeremy Sylvain, Tristan Anderson, Alex McKenna, Bernardo Moreno, Dylan Hemsted and Erik Werner and took fifth in the finals while the Third Varsity 8 boat was rowed by Bubacarr Fofana, Mo Tunkara, Jack Stokoe, Daniel Rogers, Ryan Davis, David Kunin, Karl Strahl, Lin Ge and the coxswain Winslow Gunning and captured fourth place in the second heat race in the morning session.
