Castleton, VT – Àine McMorrow (Dublin Knocklyon, Ireland) and Anthony Fazio (Highland, NY) led the SUNY Canton women's and men's cross country teams recording second and 11th place showings at the Castleton Invitational on Saturday.
Fazio paced the men clocking a 30:04 in his first collegiate 8-kilometer race, while Luke Ducharme (Brushton, NY) was not far behind crossing the line in 30:57 for 16th place. Jonathan Dunham (Edmeston, NY) packed well recording an 18th place finish (31:23).
Paul Ford (Ausable Forks, NY) and Dan Loskowitz (Stuyvesant, NY) rounded out the Roo scorers in 20th (32:32) and 28th (34:47) places, respectively. Matt Fortin (Liberty, NY) and Brent Archer (Edwards, NY) served as displacers in 29th and 32nd places.
The Roos finished in third place out of the five team field with 71 points. Southern Vermont (24) finished in first place just ahead of Castleton (33).
On the women's side McMorrow led the way posting a 20:27 performance over the 5K course just 12 seconds behind race winner Kaylyn Crompton from host Castleton. Madeline Hewitt (Fabius, NY) was the second Roo runner across the line in 24:38 (17th), while Kim McCarthy (Ludlow, MA) finished in 28th place.
Allison Ford (Illion, NY) and Julie Angell (Warrensburg, NY) rounded out the Roo scorers finishing in 36th and 43rd places, respectively. The Roos finished in fifth place out of the seven team field with 114 points. Albany College of Pharmacy (48) edged the host Spartans (54) for the team title.
The cross country teams are back in action next Saturday when they take part in the Johnson State College Invitational. The women take off at 10:30 a.m. followed by the men at 11:15 a.m.
