POTSDAM, N.Y.—Two SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey players were recognized by the State University of New York Athletic Conference for their play during the week ending Feb. 5. Senior goaltender Kevin McFarland was named SUNYAC Goalie of the Week and freshman forward Vinny Buttitta was named the conferences’ Rookie of the Week.
McFarland went 2-0 over the weekend, helping the Bears to a sweep of Buffalo State on Friday and Fredonia on Saturday. Against the Bengals, he stopped 25 of 26 shots en route to a 5-1 win on Bear Pride Night. The following evening on Senior Night, he made 49 saves, including 19 in the third period, in a 4-3 overtime win against the Blue Devils. This season, McFarland is 4-4-2 in 10 starts with a .916 save percentage and a 3.67 goals against average.
Buttitta had a career weekend against Buffalo State and Fredonia. He recorded a goal and an assist against the Bengals and buried a turnover against the Blue Devils to notch three points in the two games. In seven games this season, Buttitta has three goals and an assist for four points.
Potsdam (8-11-2, 6-6-0 SUNYAC) continues its playoff hunt with games at Geneseo on Friday and Brockport on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
