St. Lawrence women's basketball senior captain Kara McDuffee broke the University's career rebounding record and tied the single-game record on Wednesday night, helping the Saints to a 78-60 win at Clarkson University to clinch the 2014-15 Liberty League regular season title.

McDuffee finished with 23 rebounds, tying the most in a game in University history, a feat that hadn't been done since 1991. Meanwhile, her 297 boards this season breaks Merritt Sullivan's single-season record of 286 which had stood since her senior year in 1989, and moved McDuffee into second place on the all-time rebounding list behind Kris Krablin '78. The Owego, NY native added 16 points to help St. Lawrence improve to 19-5 (13-2). Meanwhile, rookie Jenny Scudder lit up Clarkson (17-7, 10-5) with a 7-for-10 mark from the field including 6-of-8 from behind the arc for a career-high 24 points off the bench.

"With our schedule at the end of the season against the top teams in our league, we had to earn the championship. I thought we played great tonight against a really tough team," said St. Lawrence head coach Dan Roiger. "That is the best offense we have run all season, as the women did a great job of executing aggressively while remaining patient."

Senior Allison Cady added a big game for the Saints with 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Clarkson was led by Cara Manfredi's 20 points on 8-of-22 shooting, but the Golden Knights were done in by an 0-for-7 mark from three in the second half as St. Lawrence pulled away with hot shooting.

The visitors held a 33-27 lead at halftime, as McDuffee piled up 14 of her team's 24 rebounds while Scudder led the way with nine points. Manfredi kept Clarkson within striking distance with a big first half, while Alyssia Marsal and Ashley Loggins helped pull the home team even at 35-35 just 4:18 into the second half. However, that seemed to light a spark for the Saints, who quickly hammered out an 11-0 run in under three minutes to take a 46-35 lead, with Scudder and Cady aiding the effort.

Scudder continued to fire throughout the second half, finishing 4-of-5 for 15 points in the period. The Knights got to within 11 at 56-45 with 8:23 to play, but a three from Shayna Davner followed by a lay-in by McDuffee ended the momentum and put the Saints up by 17. Clarkson wouldn't threaten again as St. Lawrence posted an impressive second half to win 78-60.

"What can you say about Jenny tonight? She was just in a zone!" added Coach Roiger. "What she did very well was set good screens and then find open spots for her teammates to find her. Obviously Kara has been an elite player for us, and I'm so proud of the effort she puts in every single game which has helped land this incredible record."

St. Lawrence will celebrate its "Senior Night" on Friday, February 20 when it hosts Skidmore College in an important contest for the Thoroughbreds, who will be out to clinch a playoff spot. Tip-off in scheduled for 6:00pm. Meanwhile, Clarkson will travel to Skidmore on Sunday, February 22 in a game it may need for a spot in the postseason.
