POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (3-2-1, 2-2-1 SUNYAC) blew past Buffalo State (1-3-2,1-3-2 SUNYAC) Saturday night with three third period goals en route to a 5-2 victory. Senior forward Dan McCamey (Dayton, Ohio/Minnesota Flying Aces) led the Bears with two goals while junior forward Jake Rivera (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Hartford Wolfpack) recorded a goal and an assist.

With last seasons' scuffle still fresh on their minds, the teams hit the ice with an important two points on the line. Potsdam rose to the challenge and broke through at 3:08. Sophomore defenseman Jake Butler (Atlanta, Ga./Smith Falls Bears) set up McCamey for the 1-0 lead. The Bengals held the advantage in shots 18-15, but the Bears led at the end of the first.

Just 3:55 into the second stanza, sophomore forward Tommy Telesca (Selden, N.Y./New York Bobcats) buried a feed from senior forward Zach Blake (Campbellford, Ontario/Plattsburgh State) and junior forward Billy Pascalli (Deer Park, N.Y./New York Bobcats) to go up 2-0. Buffalo State followed with its own goal at 5:52 when freshman forward Ryan Stayner (Youngstown, N.Y./Nichols) fed junior defenseman Scott Roy (Rockland, Ontario/ESC L'Escale) to get within one. Sophomore forward Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, Ontario/Cardinal Carter) recorded the second assist. Potsdam finished the period with the one-goal advantage and a 21-10 lead in shots.

The Bengals brought pressure early in the third period to tie the game. Freshman forward Jason Zaleski (Scranton, PA/Scranton) found the back of the net off a pass from junior forward Cory Gurski (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton). Less than two minutes later, McCamey finished a perfect pass from Rivera to make it 3-2 at 3:08. Sophomore forward Vinny Caligiuri (Shoreham, N.Y./Hartford Wolfpack) got the second assist. The goal ignited the Bears the rest of the way.

At the 7:02 mark, Potsdam got its fourth goal of the night from Rivera after Caligiuri lofted a high pass ahead. Then with two minutes to go, the Bengals pulled freshman goalie Ian Sylves (Sloan, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and went on the attack to close the gap, but the Bears sealed the win when senior forward Trevor Cope (Swartz Creek, Mich./Atlanta Jr. Knights) hit senior captain Ken Simon (Norwell, Mass./Philadelphia Revolution) with a cross ice pass for an empty-net insurance tally.

Junior goalie Jon Hall (Dexter, N.Y./Stouffville Spirit) recorded 37 saves for the win, while Sylves finished with 44. The Bengals were 0-3 on power play and Potsdam went 0-2.

The Bears are back in action next Friday, Nov. 21 when Potsdam hosts SUNY Canton at 7 p.m. on Military Appreciation Night.
