Collegeville, PA – Wilson Matos drove in four runs and Seth Douglas hit his first home run of the season but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Ursinus College, 11-7 and 8-6, on Saturday afternoon.

The Roos (1-10) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first as Seth Douglas hit his first homer of the season, a two-run shot to left center scoring Travis Schindler, who reached base after being hit by a pitch.

Ursinus (10-3) answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Alex Campbell RBI double to left center and an Austin Kurey RBI single up the middle. The Bears added three runs in the second on a passed ball, a steal and a Campbell RBI single. The hosts opened a 7-2 lead in the fourth on a Travis Kozak RBI double to right and a Dom Fiorentino RBI infield single.

SUNY Canton got within three in the top of the fifth as Wilson Matos scored Schindler on an RBI triple to right center and Douglas legged out an infield single as Matos scored on a throwing error by the shortstop.

The Bears added a pair in the bottom half of the inning on a Kieran Geyer sacrifice fly and a Seth Regensburg 2 RBI single. The Roos got a pair back in the eighth on a Joseph Campbell RBI ground out and a Vinny Bondinello sacrifice fly leading to the 11-7 final.

Zack Newman took the loss on the mound scattering five earned runs over three and one-third innings. Pierce Greenleaf earned his third win of the season surrendering six earned runs over seven innings.

The Roos jumped out to an early 5-1 lead after a five run fourth inning in the nightcap. Douglas scored on a wild pitch to start the scoring and Trevor Keleher plated Christian Nazario-Cruz on an RBI single to right field on an 0-2 count. Bobby Clemente followed with an RBI single to right center to score Bondinello. Canton capped the scoring on a Schindler RBI single scoring Brett Hoberman and a Matos sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Keleher.

The Bears did nearly all their damage in the eighth as they scored seven runs to take an 8-5 lead. Tom Carey produced a 2 RBI double, while Careter Usowski, Regensburg, Travis Kozak and Greg Petorak all drove in runs.

Matos doubled to left field to score Schindler in the ninth and the tying run twice stepped to the plate in Douglas and Brandon Welch but Lou Aikins shut the door for the save for Ursinus.

Steve DiStefano earned his second win with five innings in relief giving up just one earned run, while Robbie Osterer took his third loss of the season surrendering three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.

These two teams will play a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
