MASSENA – Sixty-six anglers from around the North Country and Ontario hit the waters of the St. Lawrence River for the third annual Big Bass Blowout Oct. 6 and 7, and $11,000 in prize money was awarded to 22 of them.

Local Massena men won the grand prize of $5,000 for their two-day lunker total. Eric Gladding and his son Benjamin won with a two-day total weight of 10.32 pounds. One fish weighed weighed 5.38 pounds and another came in at 4.94 pounds.

The tournament was great success, said event promoters, noting that with 33 teams, it was the biggest yet. “With bitter northeast winds and sudden increases in water levels, this event showcased Massena’s incredible bass fishing and demonstrated that no matter what the adversity, on any given day, anglers can catch trophy bass in the waters around Massena,” the winners announcement said.
