Martin top women's DIII cross country finisher as Saints finish 2nd at Rochester

St. Lawrence University's women's cross country team placed all five of its scorers in the top 20 and finished second overall, first among Division III teams at the 2012 University of Rochester Invitational at Geneseo State Park on Saturday.

Division I Cornell took the top seven places in the 6,000 meter race and recorded a perfect score of 15. The Saints were a comfortable second with 75 points with Dickinson finishing third with 155, Rochester fourth with 167 and Geneseo fifth with 185 in the event, a preview of the 2012 NCAA Atlantic Regionals to be run on the same course in November.

First year Ella Martin led the Saints with an eighth place finish in 22:00.9, best among Division III runners. Classmate Margaret MacDonald was 11th overall in 22:06.5 with junior Ariel Beccia finishing 17th in 22:47.4, junior Amy Cymerman 19th in 22:57.1 and grad student Lizzy Edwards completed the Saint top five, finishing 20th in 22:58.7.

Sophomore Anne Martino was the sixth Saint finisher, 25th overall in 23:04.0 with senior Jackie Lemme completing the top seven in 30th in 23:14.2.

Other Saint finishers included Caroline Raue in 70th in 23:40.2, Jess Marini was 87th in 23:53.9, Kelsey Leder was 120th in 24:19.5, Toria Koutras was 145th in 24:34.9 as all of the Saints finished in the top half of the 360-runner field.

The Saints are off next weekend before running at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on Sept. 28.
