Poughkeepsie, NY – A last second 3-pointer by Nicole Teta ended a back-and-forth game between Vassar College and the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Knights came up short 64-61 in Liberty League action Friday night.

The Golden Knights saw their overall record evened at 7-7 while their conference mark dropped to 2-3. Vassar improved to 7-8 overall and 4-2 in league games.

A slow start (2-for-9 from the field, three turnovers) put Clarkson in a 12-4 hole in the first five minutes, but the Knights scored the final 12 points of the quarter, capped by an Alyssia Marsal layup with seven seconds to go. The Knights pushed the lead to seven points when Devin Sorell buried a 3-pointer in the first minute of the second quarter, but Vassar cut the deficit to three points a few moments later. Another Marsal layup gave Clarkson its biggest lead of the game at 27-18 with 5:30 to go, but a 9-2 run again pulled Vassar back to within two just 2:36 later. Eventually, Clarkson would settle for a three-point halftime advantage (35-32).

The Knights shot reasonably well overall (16-for-35) but went just 2-for-8 from the free throw line. Conversely, Vassar was 10-for-15 from the free throw line but just 10-for-35 from the field. Marsal was impressive in her return from an injury, shooting 5-for-7 in the first half for 10 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals. The Knights needed her 14 minutes as starters Stephanie Grobe and Devin Sorell each were in foul trouble, having been whistled for three fouls apiece.

In the third quarter, Vassar took a brief lead at 38-37 on a 3-pointer from Isa Peczuh at the 4:57 mark, but Sorell sunk another 3-pointer on the next possession to return the advantage to Clarkson. The Knights would hold the lead for the rest of the frame, but a 3-pointer from Nicole Teta in the opening minutes of the fourth game Vassar a 47-44 lead. The two teams would go back and forth for the rest of the quarter, with several lead changes and even more ties. Things appeared to be going Vassar's way when Ariella Rosenthal hit a 3-pointer with 1:47 to go and then made a layup with 27 seconds left to give Vassar a three-point lead, 61-58. However, at the other end Sorell was fouled on a 3-point attempt and made all three of her free throws to tie the score up at 61-61.

On the final possession of the game the ball went to Rosenthal inside, but her shot was blocked by Kathleen Coloney. That wasn't the end of the possession for the Brewers as Maeve Sussman found Teta on the perimeter and the sophomore made a 3-pointer with one second left on the clock. Clarkson advanced the ball to midcourt with a timeout but the ball was turned over and the Knights were unable to get a shot off as time expired.

Sorell finished with 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting, while Marsal was solid in her return with 14 points, also on 6-for-12 shooting, to go along with six rebounds and three steals. Madison Shea also reached double figures with 10 points, adding in four rebounds and four assists. For Vassar, Teta scored 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting, making four 3-pointers in the process, while Rosenthal kicked in 20 points. Sophie Nick finished a point shy of a double-double with nine points and 16 rebounds.
