Frankie Wiseley hit a running one-hander as time expired to give Merchant Marine a 71-69 win over the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team in the third place game of the Chuck Resler Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Mariners (1-1) got the back with 32.6 seconds left after St. Lawrence junior Payton Stahler hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 69-69. The ball was knocked out of bounds twice before USMMA inbounded the ball and found Wiseley. He circled the key as time dropped below 3 seconds, veered right of the lane and put up a one-handed shot that dropped through as the buzzer sounded.

Merchant Marine was led by Buck Reed's game-high 19 points, while Andrew Williams and Nick Sergio added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Sophomore forward Tell White's 14 points led four in double figures for the Saints. Senior Kyle Miller recorded 13 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts on the weekend. Stahler and sophomore Brady Condlin each added 11 points, while first-year student Leondre Simmon had a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.

USMMA opened the game with a 10-2 run, but the Saints battled back with the help of White's 12 first-half points to take a double digit lead (33-22) with under 5:00 to play in the opening half. Back-to-back three-pointers helped the Mariners get back to within four, 40-36, at halftime.

The second half had three lead changes and four ties, with the final knotted score coming at 69-69 on Stahler's free throws with :35 seconds left. Wiseley's shot to the right of the lane as time expired rolled around the rim once before dropping through for the 71-69 buzzer-beater.

St. Lawrence will host Plattsburgh State on Tuesday, Nov. 27th in the home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm in the Burkman Gymnasium.
