Marchment, Harrison lead Saints women's hockey over Harvard

Kennedy Marchment (pictured above) scored two goals for the third consecutive game, and Grace Harrison moved into a tie for third place on St. Lawrence's career shutout list to lead the 10th-ranked Saints' women's hockey team to a 3-0 win over Harvard in an ECAC Hockey contest in Boston on Saturday afternoon.

Marchment became the first St. Lawrence player in nearly 11 years to notch three straight multiple-goal games, matching the three-game run that Carson Duggan '09 had from February 3-11, 2007. Harrison, meanwhile, made 28 saves for her second shutout of the season and moved into a tie with Rachel Barrie '04 with 14 in her career, three shy of the program record set by Meghan Guckian '08.

"That was a great way to cap off the weekend," said Saints' head coach Chris Wells '92. "Harvard worked hard and had us playing at a pace we haven't played at in a few weeks. We did a nice job executing on a few plays to score early. It was good to see a great effort in a playoff-style atmosphere. Grace made some key stops and our special teams were solid again."

Marchment scored the only goal that the Saints would end up needing on the power play with just under six minutes to play in the first period. Justine Reyes sent a behind-the-back pass to Hannah Miller at the left side of the net, Miller fired a pass across the crease to the right side, and Marchment put the puck in off the back crossbar before it ricocheted right out of the net.

The officials initially ruled that the puck did not go in, and Miller scored just 20 seconds later. After the second goal, the officials reviewed the play and gave Marchment credit for the goal on the initial play.

Dakota Golde's first goal of the season increased the lead to two goals early in the second period. Golde took a feed from Kayla Vespa in the slot and skated in to the left post, going from her forehand to her backhand before flipping the puck past Harvard goaltender Beth Larcom.

Miller once again set up Marchment for her second goal of the game, winning a loose puck behind the Harvard net and sending a pass across from right to left in front of the net where Marchment was able to lift the puck into the open net to give the Saints some insurance about halfway through the third period.

The Saints, who shut out Dartmouth on Friday behind 25 saves from Sonjia Shelly, have now held opponents scoreless for 131 minutes and 39 seconds of playing time.

St. Lawrence improved to 14-7-3 overall, 10-3-1 in ECAC Hockey play with their fifth consecutive win, matching their longest win streak of the season. Larcom made 18 saves for Harvard, which fell to 8-10-1, 6-7-1.

The Saints go back on the road next weekend to face Colgate and Cornell.
