Port Charlotte, FL – The SUNY Canton baseball team earned a walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth as Edward Malinoski, Jr. reached on a throwing error to score Bobby Clemente lifting the Roos to a 6-5 win v. Susquehanna University on Saturday.
Susquehanna (3-9) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 2.5 innings scoring twice in the second and once in the third. The Roos (3-7) responded by tying the game on three runs in the bottom of the third. Travis Schindler stole second base and Edward Malinoski, Jr. scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Wilson Matos followed with an RBI triple down the left field line and later scored on a Collin Lynk RBI ground out.
The River Hawks took a 4-3 lead with one run in the sixth inning before Lynk gave the Roos their first lead of the game with a 2 RBI single through the right side scoring Matos and Schindler in the bottom of the eighth. Susquehanna found the equalizer in the top of the ninth on an RBI fielder's choice.
Zack Newman earned his first win tossing two innings of three hit ball in relief giving up just one earned run. Derrek DuPont earned the no-decision surrendering two earned runs with a strike out and walk in 5.2 innings.
The baseball team returns to action on Thursday when it visits Wells College at 6 p.m.
