Senior Kyle MacDonald's walk-off RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the 10th inning helped Saints baseball to a 3-2 win in Saturday's second game of a crucial Liberty League doubleheader against Rensselaer. The Saints also won the first game 3-1 behind first-year Evan Reichel's complete-game performance on the mound.

MacDonald had two hits for the Saints in the extra-inning win, while first-year Taylor Digilio led St. Lawrence in the opening game of the four-game set with the Engineers with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Sophomore Tom Sullivan also had a multi-hit game with two in game one.

First-years Reichel and Emmett Dunn were both strong in their respective starts for the Scarlet and Brown, with Reichel allowing just one run on four hits with one strikeout for the win in the first game. Dunn went seven and a third in the second game, allowing two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts of his own. Junior Liam Rogers – the only reliever the Saints would need on Saturday – was the pitcher of record in the extra-inning game, improving to 3-2 and allowing just one hit on two and two-thirds.

In the first game, RPI opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with a double to lead off the frame and an RBI single to right with two outs, but that was the only run the visitors would push across against Reichel and the Saints.

The home team answered with two in the bottom of the frame; both unearned after back-to-back errors by RPI with two outs.

Devin Robson led off the inning with a double to center field and moved to third on a groundout by Isaac Lewis. In the next at bat, Evan Reichel flied out to right – not deep enough to bring Robson in on the catch, but the right fielder overthrew home allowing Robson to score for a 1-1 game.

Beau Yaremko reached on a fielding error by the shortstop to keep the inning alive and advanced to second hard-earned single to third base by Sullivan who hustled down the line to beat out a play.

With two out and two on, Digilio hit an RBI single to right that plated Yaremko as the game-winning run for a 2-1 St. Lawrence lead.

The Saints added an insurance run on an RBI fielder's choice by Mic Regan in the bottom of the fourth that brought Sullivan in to score for the eventual 3-1 margin.

In the nightcap, St. Lawrence scored a run apiece in both the second and third innings to build a 2-0 lead before Rensselaer chipped away to force extras.

With two outs in the second, Adam Reichel doubles to center field and advanced to third on a fielding error by the centerfield, who bobbled the transfer on the warning track, which set up an RBI single to center by Yaremko for the team's first run.

In the third, first-year Anthony Butler was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Sullivan. He came around to score for a 2-0 lead on an RBI single to right center by Digilio.

RPI cut the Saints' lead in half with a run on two hits in the top of the fourth, and tied the game in the eighth. A pair of singles put runners on the corners with one out before Dunn was replaced by Rogers on the mound.

Rogers walked his first batter on six pitches to load the bases before the Engineers tied the game on a sac fly to right. The Cazenovia, N.Y. struck out the next batter looking to end the threat.

The Saints left a runner on base in the bottom of the ninth, as did RPI in the top of the tenth, setting up MacDonald's walk-off in the bottom of the frame.

After a pair of groundouts by Butler and Sullivan, Digilio reached on a throwing error by the shortstop to keep the inning alive. A single to center field by Mic Regan put runners on the corners for the senior, Hanover, Mass. native.

With a 1-1 count, MacDonald singled up the middle to give the Saints the win, the sweep and help the team improve to 14-23 overall and 12-10 in conference games with just two games to play.

The Saints will host the Engineers for the final two games of their four-game set on Sunday on Tom Fay Field with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
