Lustgarten, Nichols Lead Saints Nordic ski teams in 3k Prologue

The St. Lawrence University men's and women's Nordic ski teams each finished in ninth place on Saturday in the 3k Prologue races at the 2013 SLU Carnival in Lake Placid, NY. Eric Lustgarten and Kelsey Nichols paced the Saints with top-25 finishes.

Lustgarten was the top St. Lawrence finisher with a time of 8:13.9, good for 16th place overall in the men's event. He was joined by Austin Meng and Will Frielinghaus in the scoring, as the trio combined for 55.5 points.

Also skiing for the host school on Saturday were James McCatherine (47th), Kyle Curry (48th), Reed Likly (51st), Phillip Marshall (63rd), Matt Dier (65th), Austin Hart (79th) and Evan Martell (81st).

Meanwhile, Nichols improved her collegiate-best finish by eight spots on Saturday with a 21st place showing in the women's 3k Prologue. She collected 22.0 points for the Scarlet and Brown thanks to her time of 9:44.3.

Joining Nichols in the scoring was Erin Perryman, who was 31st overall. Sienna Searles and Cassidy Cichowicz shared 36th place and cap the team's scoring at 53.0 points. Kate Mulcahy (43rd) and Melanie Swick (63rd) also competed for the Saints.

Scott Patterson of UVM led the Catamounts to the team title on the men's side, while UNH earned the women's victory led by individual champion Elizabeth Izzo.

St. Lawrence will ski again next weekend, January 26 and 27, at the 2013 Colby Carnival.
