The St. Lawrence University Nordic ski teams competed in the final carnival event of 2012 on Saturday at the 2012 EISA Championships in Middlebury, VT. The Saints were led by sophomore Eric Lustgarten in the classic races, as he and senior Caroline Carpenter each earned top-20 showings.

Lustgarten, who had a breakout season this winter, finished in 17th place in the men's 20k Classic with a time of 1:21:04.6. The Burlington, VT native earned 25.0 points towards the carnival, and though he will likely just miss out on his first career NCAA individual bid, he finishes the season with another solid race.

First-year students Austin Meng and Will Frielinghaus rounded out St. Lawrence's scoring on the men's side, putting the team in 10th place overall. Meng was 32nd, while Frielinghaus followed in 37th.

Senior Adam Terko (47th), rookie Evan Turner (54th) and sophomore Bill Prescott (55th) also competed for the Saints in the 20k Classic.

Meanwhile, Carpenter led St. Lawrence in the women's 15k competition, clocking in at 1:07.59.6 to net 24.0 points. The Shelburne, VT native is likely on her way to the 2012 NCAA Championships in Bozeman, MT on March 7 and 9, especially after a fifth place finish in the freestyle race on Friday.

Senior Leah Hart, competing for the Saints for the final time, was 34th overall followed by rookie Emma Duffany, who scored for the Scarlet and Brown for the first time in her career in 49th position. The trio combined to put St. Lawrence in ninth place.

First-year student Kate Mulcahy (52nd), junior Kelsey Nichols (56th) and rookie Lauren Olson (62nd) rounded out the squad's line-up in the 15k classic.

Patrick Johnson of Middlebury College won his second consecutive race on Saturday in the men's event, while Lucy Garrec of UVM claimed the women's price en route to the team title as well. Dartmouth College won the men's title.

The 2012 EISA Championships/Middlebury Carnival brings the regular season to a close, with the NCAA Championship bids to be announced in the coming days.
