Potsdam, NY – At 6:32 of the first half on her third basket of the game, junior Ashley Loggins of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team reached the 1000-point mark faster than any player in program history, but her effort was not enough as Rensselaer's defense halted the Golden Knights offense in a 62-47 Liberty League decision Friday evening.

The Golden Knights fell to 9-4 overall and saw their mark evened at 2-2 in conference, while RPI improved to 9-6 and 5-1. Clarkson will take on Union on Saturday afternoon, while the Engineers will complete their road weekend against St. Lawrence.

Though Ashley Loggins scored the first basket of the game on a layup right after the tip, RPI controlled the first few minutes, capping off a 9-0 run in less than two minutes on a 3-pointer from Ashley Clough. A four-point play by Devin Sorell brought Clarkson back to within a single point midway through the half, but with just over five minutes to go in the first period, RPI went on another 9-0 run by utilizing the interior, and gained a 12-point lead, a margin that they would hold at intermission.

Loggins had a near double-double with nine points and seven boards in the first half, shooting 4-for-8 from the field, but the rest of the Knights struggled from the floor, going just 4-for-24 (16.7%). Rensselaer's Shaina Iton had 10 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while Ashley Clough kicked in nine points and four rebounds in the first half.

In the second half, the teams traded points in the early going, but RPI's defense didn't stop its activity and continued to force Clarkson turnovers and create easy opportunities. The Engineers finished with 16 steals, forcing the Knights to turn the ball over 23 times, the second most this year, and Clarkson shot a season-low 30.8% overall (19-for-62) and just 8.3% (1-for-12) from beyond the 3-point line.

Loggins finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, while Brooke Butkovsky produced six points and eight boards. For RPI, four players finished in double figures, led by Ashley Clough with 16 points. Amanda Lynch produced 13 points and Courtney Reynolds and Shaina Iton each finished with 10. Lauren Young accumulated five steals.
