Senior goaltender Greg Lewis made a season-high 44 saves to backstop the Clarkson University Hockey team to a long awaited win in Schenectady, NY as the Golden Knights continued to roll with a 4-1 victory over Union College on Friday night. The Clarkson victory snapped a six-game losing skid to the Dutchmen and was the Green and Gold's first win at Messa Rink since a playoff triumph on March 6, 2005.

Winners of four straight and unbeaten in its last six games (5-0-1), Clarkson improves to 14-10-3 overall and to 6-6-3 in ECAC Hockey. The Knights, who have gone 7-1-1 since January 3, play at Rensselaer in Troy, NY on Saturday in the Engineers' Big Red Freak-out Game at Houston Field House.

Lewis, who has played a major role in Clarkson's second-half surge, was at his best against Union (10-10-7, 4-7-4) equaling his career-high for saves as the Dutchmen outshot the Green and Gold 45-25. Lewis has allowed only six goals over the last six games, helping Clarkson move up into contention for a top four spot in the ECAC Hockey standings. The only shot Union could get past Lewis was on a penalty shot late in the game.

Union controlled play for most of the first period, with a 12-5 shot advantage, but Clarkson weathered the storm and struck first with a late power-play goal. With just 19 seconds left in the opening frame, senior Christian Powers connected for his second power-play tally in as many games and sixth goal of the season. Junior A.J. Fossen and senior defenseman Paul Geiger assisted.

The Knights came out strong to start the second and grabbed a 2-0 lead on freshman defenseman Aaron Thow's first career goal. Sophomore Ben Dalpe won a faceoff back to the point to Thow, who fired in a hard shot just 31 seconds into the period.

The Dutchmen made it a one-goal game when Mike Vecchione scored on the penalty shot at 14:58 of the third.

Clarkson, however, came right back at 16:22 to regain the two-goal lead as junior Perry D'Arrisso tallied unassisted for his fourth goal of the season.

Senior Pat Megannety sealed the Knights' first regular-season victory at Union since January 13, 2001 with an empty-net goal with 1:31 remaining. Freshman Marly Quince picked up the assist.

Lewis closed out his eighth win of the year with 18 saves over the final 20 minutes.

Alex Sakellaropoulos made 21 saves for Union.

The Knights were 1-of-4 on the power play and killed off all three of the Dutchmen's man-advantage opportunities.
