St. Lawrence University freshman John Lauria finished second in a 40-player field and helped the Saint men's golf team to the team title in the Nazareth Invitational played at two courses in Rochester Saturday and Sunday.
Lauria shot a 73 in the opening round of the tournament at Monroe Country Club, the second best score of the day and came back with a 76 at Irondequoit Country Club on Sunday to finish with a 149 total, his collegiate low. He finished second to Clarkson's Scott Henning in the medalist duel as Henning shot 71-77 for a 148 total.
The Saints finished with a team total of 611, 14 strokes better than second place Potsdam. SLU shot 300 as a team on Saturday, two strokes better than host Nazareth at Monroe and had a 311 total on Sunday. Clarkson was third with Nazareth fourth, Monroe fifth, Hobart sixth, Elmira seventh and Utica eighth.
Parker Dennis shot rounds of 77 and 75 and was tied for fourth with a 152 total while Jake Danforth shot 77-79 for a 156 score and Colin Dowd shot 74-82 to also finish at 156. Ryan Flynn shot 76-81 for 157 as all five Saint golfers shot in the 70s at Monroe.
The Saints concluded their fall season with the tournament and will return to action on their southern trip in March.
