An eight-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning proved to be the difference, as the St. Lawrence baseball team gave up 12 runs in the final two innings of a 16-12 loss in the first game of a three-game set at St. John Fisher in Pittsford, New York.

The Saints had built an 11-4 lead through six and half, but gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh and eight in the eighth in the loss.

Senior Devin Robson led St. Lawrence with a 4-for-5 day at the plate including two doubles, four RBI and a run scored. Michael LeFevre was also 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Brendon Frank, Anthony Butler and Evan O'Keeffe also had multi-hit games for the Saints.

On the mound, starter Sam Downes was solid allowing four runs on six hits with six strikeout through six innings and had the lead when he handed it over to the bullpen. Relievers Louis LaCivita, Matt Phelan and Liam Rogers combined to pitch two innings and allowed 12 runs on 11 hits. Rogers took the loss.

The Saints struck first with runs in the first two innings, but St. John Fisher took its first lead of the game with a four-run second inning and held that 4-2 lead until the Saints rallied for a four-run inning of their own in the fifth.

With one out and the bases loaded, LeFevre reached on an error by the Cardinals left-fielder, allowing Beau Yaremko and O'Keeffe to score and tie the game at 4-4. A two-out, two-RBI double for Robson cleared the bases and gave the Saints a 6-4 lead.

St. Lawrence extended that lead to 11-4 in the seventh with five runs on five hits, with help from an RBI single by Robson, RBI fielder's choice by Isaac Lewis and a two-RBI double from O'Keeffe.

After the Cardinals scored four in the bottom of the frame, the Saints responded with a run in the eighth to bring their lead to 12-8. Robson doubled to left to bring Adam Reichel in to score the Saints final run of the day.

St. John Fisher scored eight runs on eight hits, including seven singles, in the bottom half of the inning en route to the win.

The Saints are now 4-8 on the year, while Fisher improves to 13-6. The teams will meet again on Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader with the first game scheduled for 12 p.m.
