CANTON -- The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team cut RIT's lead down to just two points with less than four minutes remaining, but the Tigers closed the game with a 10-2 run to defeat the Saints 63-53 in a Liberty League game at Burkman Gymnasium on Friday night.
Meghan Hynes scored 11 points to lead the Saints in scoring, while Shayna Davner added 10. Hynes added three blocks for the Saints, who were one short of their season high with eight blocked shots as a team.
Ashlynn Palmitesso scored 25 points on 10-for-15 shooting to lead RIT, which improved to 10-6 overall, 3-4 in the Liberty League. Cori Okada added 15 points for the Tigers.
The Saints trailed 29-26 at the end of the first half, and RIT built its lead up to nine points with the three layups by Palmitesso in the first three and a half minutes of the third quarter, but the Saints responded with a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the second half, 36-35. The Tigers, however, closed the quarter with an 11-4 run to lead 46-40.
St. Lawrence (5-9, 2-4) will return to Liberty League action on Saturday, hosting William Smith at Burkman Gymnasium at 2 p.m.
