The St. Lawrence men's hockey team made a late push in the third period and pulled within a goal with the help of Dylan Woolf's first as a Saint, but ultimately fell to No. 15 Union, 4-3, on Saturday night in ECAC Hockey action at Appleton Arena.

In addition to Woolf, St. Lawrence got goals from first-year David Jankowski, who is now tied for the team lead with four on the season, and Bo Hanson, who got the first of his sophomore campaign in the third period. Jake Stevens led the Saints with his second straight multi-point game with a pair of assists against the Dutchmen.

Junior netminder Daniel Mannella finished with a career-high 50 saves for the Saints in the loss, including 20 in the third period.

Union got on the board first when Parker Foo threw the puck towards the net and it deflected in off Mannella's skate as he was moving back into position after playing it behind the goal line at 8:47 of the first period.

In the closing minutes of the frame, Jankowski pulled the Saints even with a great second-chance effort on the far post, as he swatted a rebound off a Stevens shot behind Union's Jake Kupsky for a 1-1 game.

Michael Ederer picked up the secondary assist on the Jankowski tally and is now the team's leading scorer with nine points on the year.

The tie was short-lived, however, as Union was able to pull in front once again just 32 seconds later with a Sean Harrison tally to send the Dutchmen into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Neither team scored in the second period, despite a five-minute power play for St. Lawrence after Liam Morgan received a major penalty and a game misconduct for a spear on Carson Dimoff after the whistle.

The Saints also had two full minutes of a five-on-three, as Ryan Walker was sent off for tripping just 42 seconds into the major to Morgan, but were not able to convert and put one behind Kupsky.

At 4:15 of the third period, Brett Supinski extended the lead to 3-1 Union with a rip from the slot off a feed from Sebastian Vidmar.

Hanson pulled the Saints within a goal with his first of the season, as he and Zach Risteau connected for a give-and-go cycling through the zone. Risteau hit the Boise, Idaho native for a one-timer in the right circle that beat Kupsky at 8:01 to make it a 3-2 game in favor of the Dutchmen.

But at 13:19, Foo left a drop pass for Union captain Cole Maier and he beat Mannella with a wrister high on the blocker side for the eventual game-winning goal and a 4-2 lead.

Woolf's first career tally came during the Saints late offensive push at the 17:22 mark of the final frame, as he sent a shot through traffic from the point with Cade Gleekel and Ederer screening Kupsky in front. Gleekel and Stevens assisted on the play.

Union outshot the Saints 54-19 in the win and improves to 11-6-4 overall with a 4-5-1 mark against conference teams. Meanwhile, St. Lawrence falls to 3-16-1 and is 1-6-1 against ECAC Hockey opponents.

The Saints continue their conference schedule on the road next weekend at Brown and Yale.
