Canton, NY – Despite a dominating performance by host SUNY Canton visiting Morrisville State netted a late goal in the 81st minute to prevail, 1-0, Wednesday evening. The win improves the Mustangs to 10-4-2, while the loss drops the Kangaroos to 8-9-0.

SUNY Canton held an 8-3 shots and 2-0 shots on goal edge in the opening half but neither team was able to find the back of the net as the contest was scoreless at intermission. The Roos best opportunity in the opening stanza came with four minutes remaining when Nick Escalante (Whittier, CA) played a beautiful through ball from center to left to Elhadji Gueye (New York, NY) who attempted a sliding shot that deflected off Mustang keeper Eric Berglund and out of play.

The Roos continued to be the aggressor out of break with one of its better opportunities coming with 19 minutes remaining off a bicycle kick from Tyler Gallagher (Potsdam, NY) from roughly 15 yards out. However, Berglund stymied the chance reaching above his head to make a save on a ball placed just under the crossbar.

The Mustangs were finally able to break through with just over nine minutes left on the clock when Jeffrey Hado picked up a loose ball on a scramble and made a quick pass to Chernor Barrie who drilled a shot into the lower right corner of net.

SUNY Canton continued to push late but was unable to find the equalizer despite holding a huge edge in shots (18-9) and shots on goal (7-4). Evan Drew (Elizabethtown, NY) stopped three shots in net for the Roos, while Berglund made seven saves for the Mustangs.

The men's soccer team closes out its regular season Sunday at 3:00 p.m. when it hosts Lyndon State. The Roos need a win to finish .500 and secure an opportunity for Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason play.
